Hello again. I'm not quite sure what I'm doing here. Even moreso, I'm not sure what you're doing here.

How did I get back here? Well I was cleaning up some programs on my computer, and I found an old bookmarks file from Firefox. So I clicked on it, and after 10 minutes of updates that needed to be processed, I found a time capsule from about 10 years ago of all the things I was into. This being one of them.

I clicked the link, but my domain had expired and died. I couldn't even see any of the old posts I had written. Diving deeper, because, I wanted to see how awful these old posts were, I fixed the issues of the domain, and layout which had broken as well.

So long story short, the blog is a functional being again. Will I ever use it? That's an interesting question. I have been helping a friend of mine with his short story that he's going to be coming out with soon and it makes me want to get back into this blog thing. We'll see...Craighttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09884471302380544278noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2561116315467683134.post-54932063866854631492013-02-15T14:08:00.002-07:002013-02-15T14:08:27.133-07:00Upcoming...I have some big news...well...for me, and this blog it is, I guess...but if you're visiting this page, you might be interested.

However, it's not ready to announce yet, and I'm not going to build it up like "big news" like MLS usually does.

So, This post really doesn't say much, but just know, some new things are going to happen here.

Stay tuned...
There are many reasons that have been given for the merger and many that seem like this would be a great idea. However, I stand against this merger. You might be saying, wait, you're a contrarian to everything so why is this news? Well, here's why I think it's a bad idea.

People are different.

The people that represent the current Class VI and Pid Army and BSG are just different types of people. This is not to say that people can't put their differences aside and work together, but when it comes to identifying yourself and/or representing a group, there will be plenty of issues that arise from trying to blanket a diverse group of people within one. These conflicts will not bode well for the long term viability of this mega group.

We don't have to all be the same. It's ok to be different. It's ok to have different ideologies, motivations, and ways to support the club.

How much in common does a 50 year old in CVI have with a 19 year old in PA? Will this group accurately represent both of those people? How could it?

It will become more difficult for a single person to influence the
group. If the group does or says something a person doesn't agree with,
where else is there to go? Are they no longer a supporter because they
don't fall into the ways of this mega group? Would this group stand in
the way of anyone trying to start a new group? Would the Front Office?

This was also supposed to give us bigger bargaining power with the front office in all ways, including ticketing and influence. While this may be true, we also lose some of our independence and autonomy in the process. It will be easier for the front office to influence the group and control a group of one. Do we really want a monopoly on ideas and influence?

I hope that these things don't happen, I hope this group succeeds, but I am also not living in a utopia where this merger solves all issues.Craighttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09884471302380544278noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2561116315467683134.post-54452953094344761882013-01-30T09:35:00.000-07:002013-01-30T09:35:10.498-07:00A New SeasonWelcome to 2013.
The shirts are (mostly) the same, the team name is the same, but there are quite a few changes we're in for this season. Oscar Pareja begins his second season as manager and along with Paul Bravo has put a youthful crew together for this voyage. Where this boat sails, we'll have months to figure out together.
We got our first glimpse of what that could look like as the Rapids faced Portland in Tuscon, AZ in the opening game of this season's Dessert Friendlies. In the first half we got to see a line up that most likely will be rather similar to what we'll see opening day. Brian Mullan made a first half appearance at right back and played pretty well in the limited minutes. I look forward to seeing Mullan on the field wherever he is. He is a true professional. The only slightly depressing thing to come out of the first half was that the key to this whole season, to the offense, the engine that makes this offense run, Martin Rivero left with an apparent ankle injury. (He later tweeted a picture of himself in a cast). The offense struggled at times last year, and if he's out for any significant amount of time, I don't see that stopping, especially with the youth and inexperience up top. The second half was all about the youngsters, and while they showed some signs of promise, I will quell my enthusiasm for the moment by understanding the context of these game and the quality of opponent on the field. However, it was good to see some of those fresh young faces in burgundy.
What did you think of the friendly? Which young player are you most excited about? What happens if Rivero is out for a period of time?Craighttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09884471302380544278noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2561116315467683134.post-12665842036570884962012-09-21T15:26:00.001-06:002012-09-21T15:26:55.820-06:00Running TunesUsually when I'm running I listen to a spoken version of the rosary. I say usually because I just started to pick up "running" about 3 weeks ago. (I'm doing the C25K program, if you care). This morning, however, I decided to listen to some old podcasts of Father Larry Richards homilies. Wow, was I in for a flooring. Father Larry was teaching on Corpus Christi and may have well been just talking straight to me. "The most important thing in this word, in this life is the Eucharist, are you living your life to do everything you can to receive Him?" Wow. I just hadn't thought of it that way. I'm going to listen that one again, just so it sets in more.Craighttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09884471302380544278noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2561116315467683134.post-56931600474949868352012-09-21T10:25:00.001-06:002012-09-21T15:29:56.393-06:00Video: Yes to You
This video swarmed through the Catholic blogosphere yesterday but I thought I would share it and add another voice to the choir of how awesome this is.

I have a few friends and acquaintances with same-sex attraction and that also identify themselves as Catholic. We've had those tough discussions where they've expressed that they don't feel like they're welcome in the Church. During those conversations I've struggled searching for the words to try to explain this very subject, that the Church is says no to same-sex marriage but not to you. Father Pontifex does so much more eloquently. I hope that those friends (and anyone else in that situation) find this video helpful, and that any sorrow that has come to them by the perception that the Church hates them would be lifted.Craighttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09884471302380544278noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2561116315467683134.post-23451409206244021502012-09-20T10:17:00.001-06:002012-09-20T10:24:45.557-06:00Putting the G and C in GCSI have decided to re-dedicate myself to this blog. I think I have said that before, but this time I mean it. (insert snicker here). I also plan on making this blog more about me and focused on more about issues that I want to talk about. That includes things like Catholic issues, politics, family life, etc. In short, I plan on putting the God and Country into God, Country, Soccer.
Thanks!

Sabemos que hemos pasado tiempos difíciles, tiempos con demasiados cambios, incluyendo tiempos frustrantes. También sabemos que todo lo que nosotros como hinchas del equipo a veces podemos ser un poco demás demandantes incluso incomprensibles a lo que ustedes hacen. Pero si reconocemos y agradecemos lo que hacen en la cancha, sudan la camiseta, entregan y dejan todo en ella;

Animo!
Amemos la camiseta juntos. Gracias por su atención;

Sinceramente
Kevberto!Craighttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09884471302380544278noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2561116315467683134.post-55802779790683527092012-03-21T10:30:00.005-06:002012-03-21T10:56:50.332-06:00Guest Opinion: El ColmilloBy: Kevberto (@Kevberto)

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 341px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4gPpr6PqlETWHxvvV5RPN3zgvLEJOF949LMqvPprZtLqy3CoZcOPVQrDBeZa4St1s5ak7_mTGXehAHj4mS6terAR61jsGr3XbWK0Ap4Tx20nW8m66KyVZC2G7O0g1dd01yuJn3Nl6b9RD/s400/PickensFingerPoint.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5722394089456767362" />
(Original Photo via Philadelphia Union Facebook Page)

Craighttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09884471302380544278noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2561116315467683134.post-87184036681338010062012-03-13T16:51:00.005-06:002012-03-14T11:17:39.003-06:00What does it mean to be an American soccer fan? What does it mean to be an American soccer fan? Where are your loyalties? Who do you root for?

I have all these questions in my head and most lay dormant while I watch and cheer for my Rapids, USA men’s national team, and many “Yanks Abroad.” But when CONCACAF Champions League happens, all those thoughts and questions come flooding back to the front of my mind.

Most recently, while watching Seattle vs. Santos Laguna one question kept coming to my head; who are the #MLS4RSL folks rooting for in this game. (You know who those people are, the type that only gets their info from MLSsoccer.com, defender of all things Don Garber, the one who boastfully brags at the MLS All-Start team’s “success”, the one…etc.)

It seems quite simple at first glance, “duh, Seattle is in MLS, and therefore, American.” But is it that simple? Seattle had only 3 starters that are American. Santos had 1 (Herculez Gomez). Is it worth putting your club allegiance on hold to root for another MLS club to do well when they only have 3 American players? If Seattle goes on to beat Santos, is that helping American soccer? Does Seattle really represent America if they put out a line up of predominantly foreign players? How is that beneficial for the growth of American soccer?

I found myself rooting for Santos, for a few reasons, mainly because I love Herculez Gomez from his time here with the Rapids, but, also because if there is a team that I’d rather represent the USA in Champions League, it’s going to be a team that fields the most Americans as possible. That team is Los Angeles, who fielded 7 Americans in their most recent CCL game against Toronto FC.

The question of foreign influence was brought up to MLS commissioner Don Garber in a recent interview. The interviewer, Jeff Carlisle brings up some good points about the issue that Don Garber quickly refutes and sweeps away. (You should read that interview, if you want to laugh and/or cry)

This problem isn’t limited to the USA; look at last years UEFA Champions League Final, Manchester United fielded 3 English players meanwhile; Barcelona ran out 7 Spaniards onto the field. Do those numbers sound familiar? Which club won? Which strategy has brought more success to their individual national teams? Can Spain’s recent World Cup victory be attributed in any way to this? Can England’s World Cup struggles be attributed in any way to this?

I believe that it’s the federation’s responsibility to create an environment of development within its system that will benefit and enhance its national team. Does MLS fit that description? Does USA soccer care? Do the #RSL4MLS people care? Do you care?

I do.Craighttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09884471302380544278noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2561116315467683134.post-51140283858534036462012-03-13T10:28:00.005-06:002012-03-21T10:54:57.937-06:00Guest Opinion: Primer MentalidadBy: Kevberto (@Kevberto)
(While I'm working on my article, let Kevberto keep you company. - CdeA)

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 278px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHz9u9b4pSlsCk2DBmVPimwhDNt5MVPPfsj5MAxyRwhfh9Ua4UKkJTfVVmCV5qbw8mkfkwIBQWWTfOo8Gahug1Ithmj0WIubydiHkTVQeItMWV1T-5G9OhnhAnPldIROJwIyCpw6JcZe8F/s320/428008_10150582517966091_11106436090_9527922_37199450_n.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5719420792178831394" />
image via Colorado Rapids

I'm working onI have been off social media for a few weeks now (I gave it up for lent), but I haven't forgotten about this blog. I'm working on writing an article about MLS fans and the #RSL4MLS mentality.

I know that it seems like that has died down a bit, but the Seattle vs. Santos CCL matchup has brought up a good debate about who American soccer fans should be; and are rooting for.

Look for that to come.Craighttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09884471302380544278noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2561116315467683134.post-27763243253939791022012-01-26T15:43:00.001-07:002012-01-26T15:45:36.804-07:00On Goals ScoredI just found the website/blog "On Goals Scored". I haven't found the time to do one myself, but here's hoping that Kevberto can keep you occupied while I am out - CdeA)

Porteros: Matt Pickens (titular) Stew Ceus (suplente) Richard Sanchez??? (tercer portero)

Defensa: Kosuke Kimura, Drew Moor, Marvell Wynne, Hunter Freeman

Craighttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09884471302380544278noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2561116315467683134.post-91749329730629406102012-01-04T17:05:00.002-07:002012-01-04T17:08:05.183-07:00Guest Opinion: Campeon Sin RumboBy Kevberto (@kevberto)

Life has made this blog dormant over the past year, but I have plans for it to come back.

When I started this blog, it was based on the premise that it would be a place for me to just rant and rave about anything and everything that came across my mind in the soccer sphere. I will continue that mission and try to get some other people who I appreciate their opinions to contribute now and then too. But for the most part, it's just going to be me, giving you my opinions that can't be given in less than 140 characters.

Thanks for reading, thanks for coming back, and I look forward to this journey.Craighttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09884471302380544278noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2561116315467683134.post-84271501630679327352010-10-27T12:00:00.001-06:002010-10-27T12:01:12.317-06:00End of #MLS Season StuffBest 11 – (442) G – Hartman D – Olave, Gonzalez, Wynne, Pierce M – Donovan, LeToux, Morales, Ferreira F – Cummings, Wondolowski

Awards

MVP: Omar Cummings
Defender: Jamison Olave
Coach: Schellas Hyndman

Playoffs

RBNY vs. SJ – RBNY wins 4-2 agg.
Colorado vs. Columbus –Rapids win 5-3 agg.
FSL vs. FCD – FSL wins 6-1 agg.
LA Gals vs. Seattle – Seattle wins 5-5 agg. The one now is bad, real bad. I've been talking about that for a while now with friends. The colors are wrong. The use of "US" instead of "USA" is wrong. The clipart looking soccer ball is wrong. It's just bad.

So, I decided to come up with some alternative ideas and using my limited graphics knowledge, put some of them together. So here it goes.

Version 1:

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVpk7_j_B5VSFjVJxrzdkoqL2_ISdX0TqYO-2SxzrIgaNqVDwjX9bZ5Tk_1flAAc_5Glsp1d_e7tLbFa1RtkqEefwsNQcDyVCCP-AACKjp8aV1_hmKBXHfLlVO1uQO9foJbeTzzRHl8o-x/s400/US+Logo+Revisted.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5515016180095247970" />

I made minor changes to this, using the correct colors and the correct nomenclature and eliminating the soccer ball. Off to a great start and then crawl to the finish. If you break it down into 3 ten game segments, the Rapids started off great with a 6-3-1 (W-L-T) record and 19 points. If you look at the second 10 game segment, it hasn't been very good. The Rapids were 1-3-6 (W-L-T) with 9 points in the last ten games they've played, including the 3-1 loss in Columbus over the weekend. Let's take a look at who's been on the field and how I grade them.

(In order of minutes played)

G - Matt Pickens (1800 mins) B+
He's been pretty good in goal, he's started every game thus far. He's been a rock in the back line, whether it be in central defense or on the wing, he's been a great addition to this club. Only thing keeping him from getting an A is the recent wave of goals being let in by the backline.

D - Marvell Wynne (1800 mins) B+
If anyone deserves an A, it's Marvell Wynne. I just couldn't give it to him becuase of the recent lack of success from the back line as a whole. That being said, Marvell Wynne has been great. I didn't think that anyone could be faster than Omar Cummings, but I think Wynne has him beat. Wynne never is fully beat on a play, if his man gets past you can always count on him to chase the guy down. He has been a joy to watch all season.

F - Omar Cummings (1769 mins) C+
The grade may seem a bit harsh, but the expectations of Omar this year were set higher and he hasn't reached them. He was moved to the wing which has shown to not work. He still has punishing speed and what seems to be more moves on the ball this year to get free, but his finishing is still as bad as it's ever been. He's had 2 stellar goals this year and should have had at least 4 or 5 more "easy" ones if his touch wouldn't have let him down. His assist totals are down this year too.

M - Jeff Larentowicz (1,717 mins) B
Larentowitz' game is similar to Pablo Mastroeni's with a tad more dangerous right foot. He's a bruiser, a destroyer and passes better than I thought he would. My first thought when he was brought in was that it signed the end of the Pablo era, but they have played on the field together most of the year. While I don't agree with the strategy, Larentowitz can't be knocked for doing the job he was put on the field to do.

M - Pablo Mastroeni (1,673 mins) C+
He still has a temper (see the Columbus home game) but he's been better about taking cards this year. With Larentowitz in the holding midfield role along side him, Pablo's offensive game has had much more room to be spotlighted, which I don't know if you would consider a good thing. He had 4 career goals before this year, but has scored 2 real nice goals this season. However, I'm not sure if he's doing enough as the leader and captain of this club to warrant a higher grade.

F - Conor Casey (1,533 mins) B-
He's got 7 goals and 3 assists so far this season, but hasn't scored since July 17th vs. KC, partly becuase of injury. He's played in the lone striker role most of the season with basically nothing, as far as service goes, from the midfield. He's missed quite a few chances with his head this year. At times he looks aloof and disinterested on the field, but without him the offense is completely lost. If he were to get injured again and have to miss any of the last 10 games, I think it would be hard to see how this club makes the playoffs.

M - Mehdi Ballouchy (1,328 mins) D+
You probably clicked on this article just to read my comments about Mehdi Ballouchy didn't you? Well here goes. Mehdi is an enigma. He must be the best practice player ever. I don't know how else to explain it. My frustration with Mehdi's game is that the role he's being put in is one that he obviously cannot do. In the 4-5-1 role as the central creative type midfielder he should be expected to create the offense, to be the facilitator of the forward motion. I can't tell you how many times he gets the ball deep into the midfield, drops it back to either Pablo, Jeff or a defender, turns his head and runs up field. It happens most ever time he touches the ball. Please Mehdi, take control, show some aggressiveness, look to create and pass into space! The worst part is that there is someone on the bench who he could be learning from that does all those things when he is on the field...but we'll get to that later. Mehdi's low grade is a reflection of his great potential not turning into great ability.

D - Danny Earls (1,208 mins) C
He started out so well. We all sang his praises after the first few weeks, saying "Jordan Harvey who?", but he's young, and has made some mistakes. He's lost the confidence of his manager and the club even made a trade to try to shore up that spot. I didn't think his errors were to that extent, or that he was the sole problem for their struggles. It feels like he's been made out to be a scapegoat somewhat. I just think he's a young player who went through some growing pains adjusting to the competitiveness of this league. I think he'll be a good player in the future.

D - Kosuke Kimura (1,031 mins) C
Everyone loves his willingness to do whatever it takes in whatever position he's put in. He's a true pro, a nice guy and a tireless worker. All that being said, he's not really a starter type player. He's a good glue guy and a good guy to have on the team. With Wynne coming to the club, Kimura moved more into the fill in role but has been called upon more frequently with the struggles of the left back position. When he is on the field, you can expect him to get beaten a time or two, but you can also expect him to show up in the offensive zone trying to make plays.

D - Julien Baudet (920 mins) B
The Beast as he's affectionately known is as he's called on the field. He's an intimidating force but not without his faults. He's had a few bone headed plays that have cost the club. He's always being targeted on free kicks and corners but hasn't scored any of them. However, it seems he and Drew Moor have a good feel for each other and he's been a cornerstone for the defense that has been pretty sold this year. I also like the accent, the allure, the beastliness...

M - Wells Thompson (885 mins) C
At the beginning of the season I thought Wells was a huge upgrade over Jacob Peterson. As the season has progressed, he's shown to be pretty much the exact same player as Peterson, with a bit more more of a temper. He has an affinity for finding physical challenges. One thing he does that I think Gary Smith really likes and what keeps him on the field is that he runs all day. He runs forward, he runs back to defend, he runs all day long. For a wing player, he doesn't have much in the way of crossing the ball. He needs to improve that part of his game quickly with Colin Clark being down for the season.

M - Colin Clark (866 mins) C-
Speaking of Colin Clark, I feel bad for the guy, two years in a row tearing your knee up has to suck. If we're just looking at his performance on the field, he struggled this year. Actually in the last game he played, it was his best game of the year up to that point. He had been timid, looked scared to go into challenges, and rusty. It's too bad that we won't get to see this year if he was able to come back from his injury and be productive again. Our wing play last year suffered without him and probably will continue to struggle again this year too.

M - Jamie Smith (620 mins) C
Has never really been fit enough to contribute. He gets injured very easily and has yet to see consistent time on the playing field. When he is on the field he has shown some skill on the ball and an ability to make things happen from set pieces. However, all that doesn't matter if he can't stay on the field.

D - Scott Palguta (415 mins) C-
After a very nice season last year he was bumped out of the starting role by a healthy Julien Baudet and the acquisition of Drew Moor. When he has played it's been shakey at best. He was pulled in the first half of the KC game for not being able to keep up with Kamara and Burnbury. He's filled in here and there at LB and CB, and has played better as of late, but not nearly as good as he was last year.

F - Quincy Amarikwa (201 mins) C
The Rapids traded for him earlier this season and he's played more than I thought he would. He's very athletic and a bull dog on the field but lacks a finishing touch. I wouldn't want to have to count on him if Casey or Omar get hurt.

F - Claudio Lopez (143 mins) B
El Piojo, the legend. I have been your biggest ally, you biggest supporter, your biggest fan. I'm not sure why you can't get on the field to start a game. You told me personally that you can play more than you are, and when you are on the field, the entire team looks dangerous. I know you're getting up there in age, and I know that with you inserted into the lineup that the problems of this team won't all magically disappear. But I know what my eyes tell me, and that's that you are the most skilled player on the ball this team has had in a long time. I want you on that field, I need you on that field, the Rapids need you on that field if they're going to make the playoffs this year.

M - Ross LaBauex (59 mins) INC
Hasn't had enough time on the field to be able to grade him accurately. I do like saying his name though.

Coach Gary Smith C
While I don't agree with some of the tactical decisions that Gary Smith has made, I look at some of the player personnel decisions as more egregious. His insistence on using Mehdi Ballouchy in the creative central midfielder role in the 4-5-1 formation is questionable at best. His use of Omar Cummings on the wing has proven to be unsuccessful. There were some decisions that worked, for the most part the back line have been solid..ignoring the LB slot, Larentowitz has worked, even thought I would start him in place of Pablo and not along side him. What started out to be the best start in Rapid history is turning into another mediocre year, straight on the path of another 10-10-10 year.

Conclusion and Predicion
The Rapids have 10 games left, 6 at home 4 on the road. They have Chicago and Toronto breathing down their necks for the last playoff spot. Can they hold on and make the playoffs? At this point, I say no. I see them going 3-5-2 with the schedule they have left. That would give them 11 more points for a total of 39 points. I think that Chicago will end up with more points and make the playoffs instead. It's pretty cool, I spent way to much time messing with it. Well this is what I came up with. My desired formation and personnel for the Rapids.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 246px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwiFSWhn6jhemsiJZyB8Ck10mJG6hPmJ14Wahj8WB6BhZebcF4gryi5I3NI_9d7bjMSwHVGcOjjtVbBnaE4HD9-6Ip0jX-6ftNsgCOIyNzYtlbyT4gyxNr0FmtoM0VKNbyE_Jb3gELdUhX/s400/Rapids+Desired+Formation.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5499020304881514914" />

I know the biggest thing off the bat is that Pablo Mastroeni is not out there. I just don't see the need for 2 destroyer type midfielders on the pitch at the same time. At this point in their respective careers, Jeff Larentowitz is better at that position than Pablo is. Another thing is that Mehdi Ballouchy isn't in the middle, he's replaced by Claudio Lopez. This seems like it should be an automatic, but for some reason, Gary Smith likes Mehdi more than Lopez. In this formation Omar Cummings moves back up top to partner with Conor Casey. Putting them on the wing as they have this year just isn't working. He's scored 2 stunning goals, but the rest of the time hasn't performed up to par with what he did last year.

Make sure to check out footballuser.com and make your team.
